Mergers
The Communal pioneered the first merger in the Credit Union movement in Grenada. In 2003 the membership of the Vincennes Co-operative Credit Union resolved to merge with The Communal. This was accomplished in December 2003. This served as the catalyst for other Credit Unions to merge with one another. The Communal also merged with the then Perdmontemps Co-op. Credit Union. In both locations Branches of the Communal were established.
SDA Credit Union: The Seventh Day Adventist Co-operative Credit Union is in the process of being established in a union with the Communal Cooperative Credit Union. The current members of that Credit Union will in the near future become members of the Communal Credit Union Limited. Dialogue is being held with The Grenada Authority for the Regulation of Financial Institutions (GARFIN). Members of SDA Credit Union can expect to receive an invitation to meet with the Management of the Communal Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. to be informed of their new status as members of the Communal.
Office Relocations:The Communal Cooperative Credit Union has relocated two of its branches and opened a new branch. As of March 29, 2010 The Gouyave and Carriacou branches were relocated. Both are now occupying locations formerly used by the demised Capital Bank International. The Gouyave branch originally located in the building housing Western Union near the vegetable Market on Lower Depradine Street has moved to Central Depradine Street, at the Junction with "Fish Friday Street". The Carriacou branch has relocated from Main Street Hillsborough, to Church Street, inside the Kim’s Plaza Building . We hope it will provide a more convenient experience for our members.
New Loan Product Available: The Communal have received funds from the Grenada Port Authority, to lend to its members for the purpose of establishing and or enhancing micro and small Business Enterprises. The Start and Grow Business Loan is now available, and members who have new business ideas, and believe it can work for them, can come in and hold discussion with the Loan Department. If you already operate a business and need to expand, the funds are available to you. A number of disbursements have already being made.
